Case Study: Reducing Inpatient Falls Using Extension Engage Mobile

Learn how a 240-bed, acute care hospital located in Fort Lauderdale, FL collaborated with Extension Healthcare, in order to decrease the number of patient falls, by delivering bed exit alarms to nurses via mobile phones. After the implementation of Engage Mobile, the hospital was able to achieve incremental reductions in patient falls, with an overall 40% reduction in the first 2 years with an ROI of $1.06M. This represents a decrease in patient falls from 3.27 per 1,000 to 1.97 per 1,000 in one year.

Case Study: Reducing Interruption Fatigue through Improved Alarm Support

March/April 2016 of Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology (AAMI Publication) – Extension Healthcare’s Chief Nursing Officer, Mary Jahrrsdoerfer, PhD, RN, article was published in AAMI’s Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology. The article describes a case study in which one hospital implemented a workflow improvement plan. The goal was to measure the effects of using a secondary alarm notification with a unified alarm management technology platform, a smart mobile device, and a monitor technician, in order to determine whether it could help resolve issues surrounding “clinical interruption fatigue.”
